Gabriel Communications, a newly combined company brings together the old Gabriel Communications, founded and headquartered in St. Louis, MO, and TriVergent, founded and headquartered in Greenville, SC. Over time, the two companies had developed parallel to one another with similar strategies, but serving different markets. Gabriel was centered in the Midwest, while TriVergent focused on the Southeast. After recognizing their similarity in customer focus and telecommunications services, the Companies entered into a merger agreement in June 2000. On November 2, 2000, the merger was completed under the Gabriel name. At this time, the combined company received $450 million of equity capital and a $225 million credit facility in order to fund its business through the development of its initial 30 markets.
The new Gabriel has an ATM network that connects 27 markets and has over 40,000 lines in service. The Company expects to have 3 additional markets operational by the end of the year. Gabriel packages dedicated high-speed Internet access and traditional local and long distance telephone services with unified voice, e-mail, fax messaging and other advanced data services. Its network platforms allow it to offer business solutions, including Web based applications and database management.
