Rackspace Hosting, Inc. is a rapidly growing company that provides premium hosting services for business clients at six data centers worldwide. Founded in 1998, Rackspace is growing rapidly through acquisitions and via organic internal growth.
Rackspace's primary service combines server collocation facilities with hardware deployment and management. At a traditional server collocation facility, clients rent space but still need to provision, install, and manager computer hardware themselves. Rackspace bundles such device management along with the facility rental to create their backbone service, called "Platform Hosting." Other hosting services include application hosting, e-mail hosting, web-hosting, and file hosting.
While Rackspace serves businesses of all sizes, their typical customers are medium-sized businesses that are not large enough to require their own dedicated datacenter or who don't want to maintain a fleet of servers with first-rate uptime and redundancy. Since Rackspace provides device installation and management, clients do not need to physically visit the datacenter to upgrade or install equipment. Rackspace has two datacenters in Texas, one in Virginia, two in the UK, and one in Hong Kong.
